How to set up call forwarding on an iPhone

2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Open Settings, tap Apps, then Phone, then Call Forwarding. Switch it on and type the number that should receive your calls. All incoming calls then ring on that number.

Call forwarding sends your calls to another number, for example your work phone, a colleague or a landline when you have no mobile signal at home.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings, Apps, Phone

On iOS 17 and earlier, Phone is in the main Settings list.

  2. Tap Call Forwarding

If you do not see it, your network handles forwarding in another way. See the notes below.

  3. Switch on Call Forwarding

A new row, Forward To, appears.

  4. Tap Forward To and type the number

Include the area code. For a number abroad, start with the plus sign and country code. Go back one step to save.

  5. Check that it is on

The number you entered is shown next to Forward To while forwarding is active.

Good to know

Your phone does not ring while forwarding is on. Remember to switch it off afterwards on the same page.

Forwarded calls may be charged according to your tariff, especially to numbers abroad.

Some networks do not show this switch. They use codes instead: for example, dial **21* followed by the number and # to turn forwarding on, and ##21# to turn it off. Check your network's help page for the codes it supports.

To forward only when you are busy or do not answer, you need those network codes. The switch in Settings forwards every call.

In short: Settings, Apps, Phone, Call Forwarding, switch on, enter the number.
