How to find a saved Wi-Fi password on a Mac

2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Open the Passwords app, click Wi-Fi in the sidebar, select the network and move the pointer over the hidden password to reveal it. You confirm with Touch ID or your Mac password.

A Mac remembers the password of every Wi-Fi network it has joined, and so do your other Apple devices if iCloud Keychain is on. You can look it up when a guest or a new device needs it.

Step by step

  1. Command+SpaceOpen Spotlight, then type Passwords

    Open the Passwords app

Press Command + Space, type Passwords and press Return. Unlock with Touch ID or your Mac password.

  2. Click Wi-Fi in the sidebar

    Every saved network is listed.

  3. Select the network

    Click its name.

  4. Reveal the password

Move the pointer over the dots, or click them. You can copy it or show a QR code that a phone can scan to join.

Good to know

On macOS Sonoma and earlier, which have no Passwords app, open System Settings, Wi-Fi, scroll down to Advanced, click the three dots next to the network and choose Copy Password.

For the network you are connected to now: System Settings, Wi-Fi, Details next to the network name, then click the password.

Other Apple devices nearby can receive the password with one click when they try to join, if you are in each other's contacts.

In short: Passwords app, Wi-Fi, select the network, reveal the password.
