How to make text bigger on an Android phone
2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 2 October 2026
Open Settings, tap Display, then Display size and text, and drag the Font size slider to the right. Display size, on the same page, makes buttons and icons bigger too.
Small text is the most common reason people struggle with a phone. Android can enlarge text across the system in a few taps, and you can preview the result before you leave the page.
Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them, so the Samsung name is given where it differs. The pictures are simplified diagrams of the screen, not screenshots.
Step by step
Open Settings and tap Display
Display is in the main Settings list.
Tap Display size and text
On Samsung, tap Font size and style.
Drag Font size to the right
The preview at the top shows how messages and menus will look.
Adjust Display size
This makes everything larger: text, icons and buttons. Fewer things fit on the screen, but they are easier to tap.
Switch on Bold text
Thicker letters are easier to read, especially outdoors.
Good to know
To zoom in on anything for a moment, switch on Magnification under Settings, Accessibility. Then use the shortcut you chose there, such as the accessibility button or a triple-tap, to zoom.
In Chrome, tap the three dots, Settings, Accessibility to scale the text on websites separately.
Tap Reset settings on the Display size and text page to go back to the normal size.
In short: Settings, Display, Display size and text. Raise Font size, then Display size if needed.
