Android Wi-Fi not working? 8 fixes that solve most cases

2 min read · 8 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Switch Wi-Fi off and on, restart the phone and the router, then forget the network and join again. If that fails, reset the network settings under Settings, System, Reset options.

First find out where the problem is. If other devices work on the same Wi-Fi, the phone is at fault. If nothing works, restart the router or call your internet provider.

Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them, so the Samsung name is given where it differs.

Step by step

  1. Switch Wi-Fi off and on

Swipe down twice from the top, tap Internet and use the Wi-Fi switch. Wait a few seconds before turning it back on.

  2. Turn Airplane mode on for ten seconds

This restarts all the phone's radios. Turn it on, wait, and turn it off.

  3. Restart the phone

Hold the power button, or power and volume up, and tap Restart.

  4. Restart the router

Unplug it from power for 30 seconds. Wait two to three minutes after plugging it back in.

  5. Forget the network and join again

Open Settings, Network & internet, Internet. Tap the gear next to the network and tap Forget. Select it again and enter the password. On Samsung: Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi.

  6. Check the date and time

A wrong date stops secure connections. Open Settings, System, Date & time and switch on Set time automatically.

  7. Switch off VPN and Private DNS for a test

Under Settings, Network & internet, turn off any VPN, and set Private DNS to Automatic or Off.

  8. Reset network settings

Open Settings, System, Reset options, Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi, or Reset mobile network settings. On Samsung: Settings, General management, Reset, Reset network settings. Saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings are deleted. Your apps, photos and files are not touched.

Good to know

"Connected, no internet" means the phone reached the router but the router has no line. That is a provider or router problem.

Public Wi-Fi often needs a login page. Open Chrome and load any site to trigger it.

If the phone connects but drops in some rooms, the signal is weak there. Moving the router or adding a mesh point fixes that. See what Wi-Fi 7 changes if you are thinking about a new router.

In short: Wi-Fi off and on, restart phone and router, forget and rejoin, reset network settings.
