How to turn on Wi-Fi calling on Android
2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 2 October 2026
Open Settings, tap Network & internet, SIMs, your SIM, then Wi-Fi calling and switch it on. On Samsung, open Settings, Connections and switch on Wi-Fi Calling. Your network and tariff must support it.
Wi-Fi calling lets normal calls and texts go over a Wi-Fi network when the mobile signal is weak, such as in a basement or a building with thick walls. You keep your number and use the normal Phone app.
Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them, so the Samsung name is given where it differs. The pictures are simplified diagrams of the screen, not screenshots.
Step by step
Open Settings and tap Network & internet
Then tap SIMs and choose your SIM.
Tap Wi-Fi calling
On many phones you can also get there from the Phone app: three dots, Settings, Calls, Wi-Fi calling.
Switch on Use Wi-Fi calling
Some networks ask you to confirm an address for emergency services.
Set the calling preference
If offered, choose Call over Wi-Fi so it is preferred when the mobile signal is weak.
Check it is active
During a call over Wi-Fi, the call notification says "Wi-Fi calling" or "Internet call". Many phones also show a small Wi-Fi calling icon in the status bar.
Good to know
If the option is missing, your network or tariff does not support Wi-Fi calling on this phone model. Phones bought from another country or network are the most likely to lack it.
Calls are charged as normal calls from your home country. Check your network's terms before using it abroad.
Some office and hotel Wi-Fi networks block it.
In short: Settings, Network & internet, SIMs, your SIM, Wi-Fi calling.
