How to hide your number when calling from an Android phone

2 min read · 4 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Open the Phone app, tap the three dots, Settings, then Calling accounts or Calls, your SIM, Additional settings, Caller ID, and choose Hide number. On Samsung: Phone settings, Supplementary services, Show your caller ID, Never.

Hiding your caller ID stops your number from being shown to the people you call. It appears as Private, Unknown or No caller ID.

Menu names below are from Google Pixel phones on a recent Android version. Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands rename some of them, so the Samsung name is given where it differs. The pictures are simplified diagrams of the screen, not screenshots.

Step by step

  1. Open the Phone app, three dots, Settings

The three dots are at the top right.

  2. Open your SIM's call settings

Tap Calling accounts or Calls, then your SIM, then Additional settings or More settings.

  3. Caller IDNetwork defaultHide numberShow number

Tap Caller ID and choose Hide number

Network default uses whatever your network has set.

  4. Hide it for a single call instead

Dial a prefix before the number. In many European countries it is #31#, in the UK 141 and in the US *67.

Good to know

If the setting cannot be changed, your network controls it. Ask them, or use the prefix.

Many people do not answer hidden numbers, and some phones block them automatically.

Emergency services and your network always see your number.

WhatsApp and other internet calling apps ignore this setting.

In short: Phone app, Settings, your SIM, Additional settings, Caller ID, Hide number.
